Terms of Service
Important. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and Straker Media LLC, a Nevada limited liability company that operates Change Starts With Her (“we,” “us”). By using changestartswithher.org you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. Accounts, posting and private messages are open. Sections marked “When … opens” describe features that are not live yet; they apply from the day each feature launches, and we will update these Terms before then.
1. Definitions
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| “Site” | changestartswithher.org and changestartswithher.com, including all pages, features and files |
| “Content” | Material we publish on the Site: text, design, logos, data, report cards and summaries |
| “User Content” | Anything users post, upload or send through the Site once those features open |
| “You” | The person using the Site |
2. Eligibility and accounts
Anyone may read the Site. You must be able to form a binding agreement where you live.
Accounts
You must be 18 or older to open an account, and you confirm your age when you sign up. Your screen name is how other members see you; please do not use your real name. You must give accurate information, keep your password secure and tell us at once about any unauthorized use. You are responsible for activity on your account. One person, one account; no accounts created by automated means.
3. What the Site provides
Today the Site describes our mission and offers Your feed of actions, legislation and news on the topics and places you choose, and report cards on companies and food brands. With an account it also offers posting and discussion, end-to-end encrypted private messages between members, alerts, optional email digests and letters to your legislators. Contributions and merchandise are described in section 7 and open when we announce them. Features may change, and we may add or remove them.
4. Using our Content
The Site and our Content belong to Straker Media LLC or its licensors. You may view and share links to the Site, and quote short passages with attribution and a link. You may not copy the Site wholesale, scrape it in a way that burdens it, remove notices, or present our Content as your own.
Photos on the Site belong to their photographers and are used under open licenses; each one’s author and license is listed on our photo credits page, and your reuse is governed by that license.
5. Your content
Posts and messages
You keep ownership of your User Content. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, format and distribute it on the Site as needed to run the features you use, for as long as it remains on the Site. You confirm you have the rights to what you post, and that it follows our Community Guidelines & Acceptable Use.
We do not claim ownership of your User Content and do not sell it. We may remove User Content that breaks these Terms or the law. Private messages are end-to-end encrypted, so we cannot see or moderate their contents; you can block a sender (one block covers both her posts and her messages; she is not told, and unblocking undoes both) and report a message to us, with a copy of it if you choose, and we can act on the account that sent it. Our message server deletes messages 30 days after they are sent (the newest message in a conversation stays, still encrypted, until a newer one arrives or everyone leaves), as our Privacy Policy explains, so keep your own copy of anything you need.
Our social media accounts. Our posts on other platforms (Bluesky, Mastodon) are CSWH’s own, cite their sources, and never repost members’ posts from this site.
6. News, legislation, events and report cards
We summarize public information from cited sources: news, bills, events and records about companies and food products. Every item links to its source. Summaries are written with automated help and may be incomplete or out of date, so check the source before relying on them.
Report cards reflect our published method applied to cited public records. They are statements of opinion based on disclosed facts, not professional, legal, medical, nutritional or financial advice. If you believe an item is inaccurate, write to us with the correction and its source; we will review it and correct errors promptly.
7. Contributions and merchandise
You can support Change Starts With Her with a one-time or monthly contribution at /support. Contributions are paid to Straker Media LLC, the company that runs the Site, and pay for running it. Straker Media LLC is not a charity: a contribution is not a charitable gift and is not tax-deductible, and it buys no goods, services or rights. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never receive your card details.
A monthly contribution continues each month until you stop it, which you can do at any time from your account, from Stripe’s page for your payments, or by writing to team@changestartswithher.org; stopping takes effect before the next payment.
Refunds. Write to team@changestartswithher.org within 30 days of a payment made in error.
What we receive and spend is published at /transparency.
Merchandise. The shop at /shop sells Change Starts With Her hats, bumper stickers and button pins. A purchase is a sale of goods, not a contribution: it is not tax-deductible and is not counted on /transparency.
Who sells. Straker Media LLC is the seller. Each item is made to order and shipped by a print partner of Printify, Inc., which makes it from our design after you order. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never receive your card details.
Prices, shipping and tax. Prices are in US dollars and shown before you pay. We ship to addresses in the United States only. Shipping is a flat amount per order, shown in your cart, and an order usually arrives within 5 to 12 business days; these times are estimates, not guarantees. Any sales tax that applies is shown on Stripe’s payment page before you pay. Pictures in the shop are design previews; colours and placement on the made item can differ slightly.
Cancellations, returns and refunds. Because each item is made for you, we cannot accept a return because you changed your mind once the item has been made. You can cancel an order for a full refund until it goes into production: write to team@changestartswithher.org as soon as you can. If an item arrives damaged, faulty or not what you ordered, or has not arrived 30 days after it shipped, write to us within 30 days of delivery (or of that date) with your order number and, for a damaged or wrong item, a photo; we will send a replacement or refund you, as you prefer. Refunds go back to the card you paid with. Nothing in this section limits rights you have under consumer law (section 16).
8. Copyright complaints
We respect copyright. If you believe material on the Site infringes your copyright, send a notice to team@changestartswithher.org with: your contact details; the work you believe is infringed; the material on the Site and where it is; a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you own or are authorized to act for the owner; and your physical or electronic signature.
Before user posting opens, we will register a designated agent with the US Copyright Office and list the agent’s details here. Users who receive a notice may then send a counter-notice, and we will end the accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances.
9. Links and third parties
The Site links to sources and other sites. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, policies or practices. Linking to a source is not an endorsement of it.
10. Disclaimers
THE SITE, CONTENT AND USER CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR USER CONTENT OR FOR ANY EVENT, ACTION OR GATHERING LISTED ON THE SITE, WHICH ARE ORGANIZED BY OTHERS; YOUR PARTICIPATION IS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
11. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SITE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AND ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS (US$100).
These limits do not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
12. Indemnification
You agree to defend and indemnify Straker Media LLC against third-party claims, damages and reasonable legal costs arising from your User Content, your misuse of the Site or your breach of these Terms.
13. Suspension and termination
We may restrict, suspend or end access to the Site or an account for breaches of these Terms or the Community Guidelines, as described there, or to protect users and the Site. You may close your account at any time from Your account → Your data; it is held for 30 days so you can change your mind, then deleted. If we suspend your account we email you the reason, and you can appeal to team@changestartswithher.org. Sections 4, 5 (license for content still on the Site), 6 and 10 to 16 survive.
14. Resolving disputes and governing law
Before starting any formal proceeding, please contact us at team@changestartswithher.org and give us 30 days to try to resolve the matter informally.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Nevada, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be decided by the state or federal courts located in Clark County, Nevada, unless the law where you live gives you a right to bring proceedings there. Either of us may instead bring a claim in a small-claims court that has jurisdiction. We do not require arbitration, and nothing in these Terms takes away your right to go to court.
15. General provisions
- Entire agreement. These Terms, the Privacy Policy and the Community Guidelines & Acceptable Use are the entire agreement about the Site; terms we publish for merchandise will add to them.
- Changes. We may update these Terms by posting a new version here with a new date (and, once you have an account, by email for significant changes). Changes do not apply to disputes that arose before them.
- Assignment. You may not transfer these Terms. We may transfer them in a merger, acquisition or reorganization.
- Force majeure. We are not responsible for failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
- Severability. If a provision is unenforceable, it is limited to the minimum extent necessary and the rest remains in effect.
- No waiver. Not enforcing a right is not a waiver of it.
- Notices. Notices to us go to team@changestartswithher.org.
- Export and sanctions. You must comply with applicable export control and sanctions laws.
16. Consumer rights
Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer law where you live, including in the EU, the UK (Consumer Rights Act 2015) and Australia (Australian Consumer Law).
